eBGP changes were made to the Pittsburgh router to correct a new peering issue where Columbus was being preferred for some ISPs when Pittsburgh was a more direct route. After that change, we now see traffic flowing appropriately.

We intended to patch both Morgantown and Charleston Transit Ring routers with a hot patch that wasn’t supposed to require a reload. However the Morgantown router reloaded so we have tabled the Charleston patch for a later time.

All network services are back to normal. Please contact the WVNET NOC if you notice any issues.

Network maintenance window schedule to make two changes to the Transit Ring routers.
This coming Saturday, February 28, starting at 8:00 PM, WVNET has a scheduled maintenance window from 8:00 to 10:00 PM, during which the following two activities will occur (work is expected to take less than an hour):

1. Configuration adjustments to eBGP settings with both upstream ISPs, OARnet and 3ROX, to better balance inbound traffic between the two providers and allow more flexibility with internet routing.

2. Application of Cisco SMU hotfixes to two Transit Ring routers; these upgrades do not require a reboot and are not expected to be noticeable to customers.

While neither of these two maintenance events should cause an outage, out of an abundance of caution, we are notifying customers in advance.
